The main task of the student health team

The main task of the student health team is to work preventively and health-promoting to create accessible learning environments that promote children's and students' learning, health, and development towards educational goals. Our work includes medical, psychological, psychosocial, and special educational interventions. Schools have access to counselors, psychologists, school nurses, and school doctors. Furthermore, there are special educators and psychologists to ensure collaboration between schools and social services for particularly vulnerable children.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The school counselor is part of the student health team at various schools and contributes with psychosocial competence in the promoting, preventive, and remedial work at the individual, group, and organizational levels. The school counselor contributes knowledge about students' health, learning, and development to support students' development towards the goals. This is done, for example, by investigating students' psychosocial situations to assess the need for support and propose measures. Furthermore, they are responsible for investigating the student's social situation for students as part of the school's investigation regarding the right to adapted schooling.

As a school counselor in Motala municipality, you are expected to:

• Contribute psychosocial competence to the educational work so that all students are given the opportunity to develop towards knowledge goals.
• Participate in the school's systematic quality work by contributing to efforts in social and psychosocial work at the individual, group, and organizational levels. The counselor is part of the overall planning of the student health team's work at all levels.
• Contribute knowledge about protective and risk factors for students' learning, development, and health in collaboration with students, guardians, and staff.
• Provide guidance and consultation within the area of expertise to educational staff.
• Map and analyze the needs of students and the school, propose and implement health-promoting and preventive measures, and evaluate and develop these. This also includes work to identify students who are at risk, socially vulnerable, or showing signs of mental health issues.
• Conduct conversations with individual students related to the school situation and provide knowledge about the community's support systems. This may also involve conducting crisis, motivational, investigative, and advisory conversations.
• At the principal's request, investigate and assess the social and psychosocial situation of individual students, including before decisions on special support, before decisions on admission to adapted schooling, and during absence investigations.
• Participate in internal and external meetings related to the student health team's work and coordinate such meetings. In this coordinating role, knowledge of external units, their types of interventions, and the ability to establish and maintain good relationships with these parties is required.

The position is located at several of our primary and middle schools. Travel in the position is required.

The position will be filled provided that the necessary decisions are made.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal competencies:

• You have a degree in social work.
• You have a B driver's license with your own car to get around. There is an option for a car agreement.
• You have a good ability to express yourself verbally and in writing in Swedish.
• Experience in therapeutic work with the target group of children and adolescents is an advantage.
• It is advantageous to have additional training as a health and medical care counselor.

Personal competencies:

• You are secure in yourself, stand up for your opinions, and have the courage to speak up when necessary. You have the ability to separate the issue from the person and can feel confident even in uncertain situations.
• You actively take the initiative in social contexts, step forward, and find it easy to create new relationships and maintain relationships.
• You work well with other people. You relate to them in a responsive and flexible way. You can adapt and find win-win solutions through an unpretentious focus on the common goal.
